Projects for Young People

  • Soundbeam (accessible technology converting movement into music): Producing multi-media compositions which may combine recorded sound, electronic music, photography/video and movement.
  • Seasons & Cycles Using Heather's Soundbeam piece as inspiration for creativity in music, dance, poetry & visual art, working towards performance.
  • Vocal work: Valuing our voice and finding new ways of using it.
  • Composition through improvisation: Games, spontaneity and awareness of silence.
  • Linking with other artforms: eg integrating voice & body sounds with dance; using visual art as musical scores.
  • Using music to explore areas of the curriculum: eg percussion pieces about rock erosion; finding out why sound is so important to the Baka pygmies of Cameroon.
  • Writing, especially poetry: Describing everyday life and exploring language by trying out accessible poetic forms.
  • Numeracy through music: Invent the rules, roll the dice and see how the music unravels.
  • All projects planned and undertaken in conjunction with teacher(s).
  • Mainstream KS2 and special education projects preferred.
"We learned that music travels - in waves, in circles, in straight lines, in vibrations and across the world."
